Visibility of entry boxes in Style

• Jun 11, 2020 - 02:42

I hope I can make my question clear enough, not knowing the correct terminology. But...when I go to Format, Style, and then (for example) Page, the data entry boxes are much longer horizontally than is necessary for the numbers used for the settings. For instance, Music Top Margin has a default setting of 5.5sp, but there is a very long white space after it. This makes it necessary to use the bottom scroll bar to go back and forth just to see all the choices of settings for Page (and some other choices under Style). Is there any way to adjust this?

By default there shouldn't much space after these numbers, nor should the dialog be all that wide. It's possible you accidentally dragged the sides of the box. Can you drag them back? Can you attach a screenshot of what you are seeing?

That's definitely not how it should look. For starters, the box on the left with the list of different pages (Score / Page / Header, Footer etc) is way too wide. Start by dragging the dividing line there to the left and see if that helps. Also try clicking the arrow below that box, which collapses it. What OS is this? Some version of Windows, I assume? And what is your display resolution?

Thank you very much. I downloaded the plugin. I read the info about installing the plugin and tried to put it in and unzip it in the correct file on my computer. But I've obviously not done it correctly. As I said, I have Windows 10. Is there anyway to walk me through the steps more clearly? Thank you so much for your continued help.

When I did extract it to the Program Files/MuseScore 3/plugins folder (and I did do the MuseScore 3 version), it did appear on the plugin manager list, and I did choose it and it did (I assume) run because it shut down the program. When I restarted the program and checked the problem, it had not changed. That's why I went back and read the documentation again which said that for Windows, any NEW plugin should be put in the Documents/MuseScore 3/plugins folder. As I said, when I do that, it doesn't show the extracted files just the folder, and the plugin does not appear in the plugin manager list.

It's really hard to diagnose things like this remotely, but probably you simply didn't get all the files there. Not sure what "it" refers to in "it doesn't show the extracted files", but to me that seems to indie ate you didn't extract the files correctly. Not sure if there is someone around to help who has more experience unzipping files?

Anyhow, personally I'd recommend going with my original suggestion of Help / Revert to Factory Settings. If you did a lot of shortcut customization, you can go back to Edit / Preferences / Shortcuts and save your shortcut configuration. If you customized your palettes you can save those first too. But aside from that, there just isn't that much you could really be losing, no other settings would take more than a minute to restore.

I did the Revert to Factory Settings. The boxes in Style that I asked about before are still very long. A friend that I had recommended your program to who downloaded your program months ago had hers look the same way.
It's not something that is making the program unusable, but I thought you'd want to know in case it is a "bug" you want to deal with.

Are there any other sings of oddness? Like, were toolbar icons too big or too small? Did you need to change the font size in Edit / Preferences for things to readable? If you view a score at 100% zoom, is it physically the same size on screen as it would be when printed, or do you need to zoom in or out for it to look normal?

Until you get this sorted, there is a simple workaround that should help your workflow. In the bottom left corner of the dialog box is an arrow pointing to the right; click on this and it closes the left-hand pane, giving the extra room to the entry boxes. Also, you can drag the corners of the dialog box to increase its size and proportions.

How about your font & scaling settings in Windows? There are several different settings depending on specific version of Windows, but some provide separate system and application font size controls, some provide a percentage scale to be applied system-wide, some provide the ability the ability to override scaling on an application-by-application basis (somewhere in Properties for the application file, on the Compatibility tab I think).

Thank you for your continued help. I had forgotten that I had made settings on my pc in general for larger fonts and such. It had not caused obvious trouble in other apps. I made adjustments to that scale and the dialog boxes in Musescore don't run off my screen or have really long boxes anymore. Thank you again!
