Concert Band & Orchestra Layout & Sound (BIG UPDATE CHANGES & SUGGESTIONS)

• Jun 26, 2020 - 15:35

Before I begin, I just hope that all of the community of Musescore is safe and well in these times.

My Question is regarding scores that have a lot more instruments because I write and arrange for Concert Band, Jazz Band, Orchestra, Choir, etc., but most of my music is geared towards Concert Band and Orchestra. So some features aren't normally found in Musescore like Measure Numbers on the bottom of scores, I can't describe this feature, but I'll try to show:

            1 MEASURE

Trumpets

                 2 and

                    MEASURE

                 3

Something like that. More instrument add-ons, a gap and tempo mark space between Woodwinds and Brass, Percussion and/or Strings, an option to have 2 or 3 big Time signatures for each system, and more stuff to make the score look and sound like a professional Concert Band/Orchestral Score because Musescore isn't really designed for works like Big Bands, Concert Bands, Orchestra, etc.

(P.S. If Y'all want me to show all I mean with the layout I want, I'll be glad to show you.)

No, I am missing something somewhere in your request. Do you have an example of a score, perhaps as a pdf, that shows the style of numbering you are looking for.

Incidentally, I am very surprised that you think "MuseScore isn't really designed for works like Big Bands, Concert Bands, Orchestra, etc." I guess that the hundreds of users that produce scores for Big Bands, Concert Bands Orchestras etc. (me amongst them) might disagree. What do you think MuseScore is designed for.

(Thanks for replying BTW)
I'm not saying that MuseScore isn't Designed for that because I use it for those types of scores. What I'm saying is that I want it to have a cleaner, more defined Layout in the score and I didn't mean say that is isn't compatible for Multi-Instrumental Compositions (I had a lot of work to do and I kind-of didn't express what wanted. The PDF below is the Layout that I would like.

That score looks familiar, I think I may have played it in the last couple of years. But I don't see much in it that MuseScore can't get pretty close to. MuseScore has many features, a few of which are difficult to find. But for fairly standard notation, as in the applications you mentioned, there is usually a way of doing everything needed. The handbook is your friend.

Measure numbers below the system are something we'd like to support someday, hopefully in MuseScore 4. Meanwhile, it's not too hard to do this, just set the measure numbers to appear on all staves, and hide them on all but the bottom. Wait until you're essentially done editing the score before doing this of course.

Gaps between woodwind and brass are already easy, go to the top brass staff, right-click, Staff/Part Properties, "Extra distance above staff". An option to force tempo and other system text to automatically appear on particular staves is also something I'd like to see us add for MuseScore 4. Meanwhile, just add it as staff text.
