How to change a note on the voice part without changing other instrument line

• Sep 3, 2020 - 03:47

Hi!

I'm new to MuseScore and am excited to be composing my first piece with this software. It's really awesome and inspiring.

I am scoring a piece of mine for the handspan and voice. I figured out how to have a line for each as the Voice part is more simplistic and has different notes. Unfortunately every time I add a note to the voice part it changes ro adds a rest in it's place above on the handpan part. This is not the desired effect as I want the two to be playing at the same time.

Anyone have any insight here on how to help?

Gratitude!

hi mike!
I found out how to put them on two different staffs I'll show an example before and after putting in some notes on the voice staff and show how it's changing the notes on the handpan staff.

Screen shot at 3.05 if before and screenshot 3.06 is afterward putting a note on the voice.

Thanks for any feedback!

You are in insert mode for note entry rather than Step-Time (Default). When you enter a note, it adds room in the measure for that note at that beat to all instruments, in this case both the voice and the pan. Near the top left of your screen you will see a + followed by an 8th note on an icon with a triangle next to it. Click the triangle and choose Step-Time note input mode and it will work the way you expect.
