Track setupo in exported Standard MIDI File

• Sep 7, 2020 - 19:41

I was a bit startled to find that when MuseScore exports a Standard MIDI file it puts the notes from the first part on the score in Track 0, along with the usual "score-wide" stuff usually found in Track 0.

It is "customary" to limit Track 0 to score-wide data, and put the note data from the first part in Track 1, and so forth.

I believe that MuseScore's approach is "legitimate", but some potential receiving programs, perhaps not as "well read" as might be, do not deal with it properly. Overture (you remember Overture) is among those.

It would probably be better for MuseScore to follow the "custom" and not put part note information in MIDI Track 0.

Just sayin'

Stay safe.

I find that Cakewalk Home Studio and Cakewalk by BandLab, orthodox MIDI-wallopers, are slightly baffled by the MuseScore format, at the least failing to label the track created from MIDI Track 0 with the encoded track name but rather always labeling it "Track 1" (these programs at the human interface always label the reconstructed tracks from 1 up).

This has been requested before, I think at this point everyone agrees it makes sense, it just hasn't happened yet. I would guess it right as part of the major audio redesign happening for MuseScore 4.
