Transcribing from Piano to other Instrument

• Sep 9, 2020 - 00:05

I am currently transcribing a song from a book that is written for piano in C, and I play the Alto Saxophone, in the key of E flat. I have already written out the entire song in C and If I try to lower it by 3 half-steps, it all gets messed up because there are some key signature changes which don't get lowered with it. Do I need to re-write the entire thing using the "Concert Pitch" button with a new page using the saxophone? Or is there something I'm missing?

Enter the score on the piano with concert pitch turned off (it won't make a difference on the piano). When you are done, right click the piano staff and choose Staff/Part properties. In the window that will appear there is a button on the left side near the middle that says Change Instruments. Change the instrument to Alto Saxophone and all of the transposition will be automatic.

If you need to eliminate the extra staff, press i, select staff 2 on the instrument, click remove and the click OK.

EDIT: There's actually a better way. Create a score for the alto sax, turn concert pitch on, enter the music then click the concert pitch button to turn it off and you'll see the transposed score.
