Matrix screen keyboard for entering note pitch and duration with a single click

A computer screen is two dimensional. So why not using the horizontal dimension for pitch (as with normal piano keyboard) and the vertical for the note duration?

The input buttons are arranged in a matrix where each column corresponds to a pitch and is coloured either black or white like the piano keyboard. There might be five rows in the matrix for 16th, 8th, 4th, half and whole note duration. Dotted notes could be entered by right clicking the buttons instead of left clicking. Additional two columns could be added for rests or note extension using a tie.

The horizontal size of the keyboard could be two octaves with the possibility to shift the ocatves. Or when using a horizontal scroll bar, the full piano keyboard could be represented.

Does anybody knows wheter something like this already exists?
Is it useful? I think entering notes would be much easier and faster only using the mouse.
