Scrolling on playback
My older versions used to follow the score with the cursor at current position. It now follows to the end of the page but page does not scroll. I can't find a setting to change this.

It is the Pan Score button in the toolbar, looks like ">|" and is located between the Play Repeats button and the Metronome

No need to. There was a recent fix where the setting of this is not just scored in preferences, but also taken from there ;-)
So you might have stumbled accross that, disabled it (by accident) long ago, without it showing any effect across session, but now does
