Sotware update error message
I am working with MuseScore 3.6.2/Windows 7.
When I select Help>Check for Update I get this:
I am connected to the Internet.

This fault was reported as fixed a while ago on this issue:
#308016: Error loading update
In the past some users have experienced firewall problems which prevent MuseScore connecting to the internet.
Incidentally, Microsoft support for Windows 7 ended in January 2020. So you're on your own in that respect.

Hi, Daniel,
I will look into the possibility that some local firewall issue is causing this issue. I have nothing like it for any other application.
I do not expect Microsoft to be of any aid to this matter.

Download the update from the download page of this website here and install from that.
Well possible that the download via the autoupdater hits some issue.

Sure, that is how I do it.
I was just interested that the provision from the application itself did not work at this elevation.

It might have fallen foul of the same problem that downloading the MDL or the HQ soundfont extensions had for quite a few users
Hmm, probably not. And 3.6.2 is the latest version, there is nothing newer.
I'm getting the same error BTW, on Windows 10 (20H2)
