Slide In Below (Guitar)

• Aug 3, 2021 - 11:49

Hi there,

I'm trying to work out how to get a 'slide in below' to actually sound in the playback (see attached). I know how to get it onto a note in the tab/music notation, but to hear it is another thing. I'm using version 3.6.2.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks, that's quite a work around! You'd think it'd be easier than that if you get a marking such as 'slide in below'. The grace note sounds quite sticky and not much like a slide, if you know what I mean? I really appreciate your taking the time to do this though—what a great community :-)

"Sticky'?
Is that a musical term? ;-)

Here's another take:

Be aware that Musescore is a music notation app and therefore these types of musical symbols and markings are needed (and provided) for printing of sheet music.
Playback is provided as a sort of 'spell checker' feature -- not designed to produce a polished 'studio recording'.
Take, for instance, the simple slur. It can easily be applied to any instrument as notation on paper, but the actual execution technique (and thus the sound produced in real life) differs by instrument.
To finesse playback to make something sound "less sticky" is not really the job of notation software.

Well, it is a musical term now :-D. It was the the closest word I could think of for what I was hearing on the fly...

OK, I see what you did there—that's probably a closer rendering of what a slide sounds like on guitar. You have obviously had a fair amount of practice at this ;-)

Point taken. Don't get me wrong I'm SUPER impressed by what Musescore can do and I happily recommend it to people. I was not so much thinking about the quality of the sound reproduced—I wouldn't necessarily expect it to sound exactly like a guitar. My point was more that there's NO sound at all connected with this element (if 'element' is the right word).

Take for example the bend in the 2nd bar—there's a sound connected with that, that sounds pretty close to a bend (and I love how versatile it is too, e.g. 1/4, 1/2, full and prebends etc.). But not so with the slide—there's no sound representation at all. I wasn't sure if this is just something that one can expect about certain features, or if it was a bug.
