Musescore won't start after Windows10 update Oct 2021 KB5006670

HELP PLEASE.
Musescore will not initialise after the latest Windoiws 10 update. I have installed and uninstalled the update several times - always works without it, never works with it.

My version, from the Microsoft store, is Version 3.3.4.9134 but I have tried reinstalling it, deleteing it and installing the latest 3.6 download via a browser and whatever version I use will not initialise. There is "stub" Muserscore shown in Taskmanager but it never initialises. I've tried opening a score and oipening the program itself as advised for earlier similarr proble3ms but nothing happens.

I can only run Museswcore now if I do NOT take Microsoft's latest update.

THe update is Windows10 cumulative update : October 12, 2021—KB5006670 (OS Builds 19041.1288, 19042.1288, and 19043.1288)

Comments

Just now installed the Windows 10 October 12, 2021—KB5006670 cumulative update
on my Windows 10 Pro
Version: 20H2
OS build: 19042.1288

No problems encountered.
(Could it be related to 21H1 vs. 20H2?)

Musescore3 won’t start, although it appears in Task Manager. It worked a few days ago.

Trying to solve it, I went to Task Manager to close all instances of Musescore3, uninstalled Musescore3, updated Windows10 to version 20H2, uninstalled Musescore3 again using Revo Uninstalled, downloaded a new copy, restarted my machine, reinstalled Musescore3.

Still will not run, but still shows an active task when I check the Task Manager.

What do I do now??

After holding in the chat queue at Microsoft for 6 hours, trying various uninstalls, it seems that the last two updates 10/16 and a security patch from 10/14) disable both Musescore3 and ArcMaps. When I uninstalled one, arcMaps worked but Musescore did not. When I uninstalled 2, they both worked. But the system started reinstalling again, so I’m not sure exactly what version and patch is running. I’m getting an error message on Windows Install. Both programs run right now. Tech support elevated it, Waiting for a remote MS team. Maybe another 6 hours??

After a total of about 20 hours on Microsoft Windows chat queues over 3 days, two sessions with a Tier 2 tech support, and another Windows 10 update, Musescore and most of my other software is working. However, I can’t yet print over my wifi. Microsoft is saying the printer problem is a “known issue.” They clearly sent out a release that was not properly tested. Still can’t run MovieStudio 17 Platinum. So I bought Vegas Edit, and it’s unstable - apparently my 1 year old Lenovo is just not quite souped up enough. I am SO pissed! But Musescore3 seems to be fine now. I just got a new cumulative update. Installing it now, with my heart in my throat. It’s Version 21H1 for x64-based systems.

Thanks. I have some news too - about half an hour ago I found I CAN START MUSESCORE IF I TURN WIFI OFF! I can turn it on again once Musescore has initialised. I can't explain this but it might help others.

Do you know what the Microsoft people did to get your Musescore working again?

The tech who knew the most was tweaking the Registry, which I NEVER do. The tech called me back. I gave them remote control and watched. But it took getting through to Tier 2, which is two levels above the tech that first answers the chat. If you say you need Tier 2, and you need to WORK and can’t wait a week for a callback, you might get a call the next day. She called on time, too.

Good luck!

I've now installed the update KB5006738 too and I have mixed results. It's not consistent in that MuseScore does often initialise now butv then it doesn't! However, so far I've always so far been able to get it going by turning off Wifi. Then sometime later it starts properly. Can't explain it and there are high processor use episodes caused by MS doing not very much.

So it's not perfect but I CAN get MS going and my Windows is up to date so I'm much hppier than before.

Thanks for the effort and time you've spent, Jokerman, which has helped me a lot and others too, I hope.

No problem! I've seen that misspelling before. In fact, I think there's a font of that name.

Since the Tier 2 consultation, Musescore3 has been working fine for me. I got another comprehensive update day before yesterday. At this point, I've abandoned my old video editor, MovieStudio17Platinum, and I can't connect over wifi to my HP printer, which is hardwired to a different computer on the network. MS says it's a "known issue" (!) so we hope they will fix it sooner rather than later. Everything else on the machine, even old Adobe Creative Suite, seems to be fine now.
