my notes keep changing to a 16 note

so I have been using Musescore for less than a day and I have been editing what I have been making. but when I finally make it the right note the next note will turn into a 16 note if the note I changed was a 8th note. or if I changed something to a quarter note the next note will turn into an 8th note and it is so annoying and I have no idea how to stop it from doing that. also the same applies for rests.

Edit: I forgot to mention sometimes if i change a note the note will stay the same but will put a tie on there.

So first try to enter the basic song "without a twist".

Your score does not have 4 beats in each measure.

to verify measure durations.
