Automatically loading a soundfont

• Sep 11, 2022 - 15:24

I have attached a 2nd soundfont to a score. And saved it the score.
But when I open the score, I always have to manually go in the Synthetizer panel and load the soundfont from the score.

The fact is that the soundfont I'm using is non GM-compatible. So I updated some instruments of the score to match that soundfont topology. So when I open the score without the soundfont being loaded, all those instruments either sounds weird or doesn't at all.

Is there a way to instruct MS to load the soundfont automatically without requiring any manual intervention ?

You may want to save as default. The button names are quite confusing, I updated handbookv3 synthesizer page not long ago to make it clearer how they function.

sf2/sf3? When I'm reusing the same set of soundfonts in multiple score, I use the free editor Polyphone to edit the bank numbers, and then create and use a new matching instruments.xml in musescore3.
This method will not be compatible in musescore4 though, because there will be a new system.

In MuseScore 3, you can't have soundfonts load automatically by default when opening individual scores, but you can have them load automatically when you start MuseScore. just hit the "set as default" button in MuseScore. Just make sure that soundfont isn't top of the list so it doesn't mess up the playback of other scores.

Thanks for your comments. I will investigate Polygone in order to reduce the size of the soundfont and load it by default at the opening of Musescore.
(However, that sounfont is more complete than the one of MuseScore so I'll have anyway to create new Musescore instruments, and modify some other ones)
