Multiple chords spanning one long note, possible?
Hello all
I've been using Musescore for a few weeks and it's great!
One small question however: I write mosty jazz lead sheeds : one staff of melody with chords above.
Very often there is a long note (such as a whole note) and the chord changes under it, as in the attached example.
I have not found a way to do this in Musescore: it seems that one chord is always '"attached" to one note.
So I have to split the whole note into 2 half notes with a tie, and it makes the part cluttered.
Is there a way to achieve what I want ?

Hi.
You can attach more than one change to each note and then select them and move them with the mouse (easiest).
Or, you can add a 2nd voice to the chord, produce rests for each chord, attach a chord to each rest and then right click the rest and set invisible.

Or you can enter the first one, then select the note again, press Ctrl +K to enter the second one and use the right arrow key to move the second chord "box" before writing the actual chordname.
And if you are into jazz and lead sheet you might want to check out this website and maybe contribute with you own sheets :)

I've tried the hidden-rests-in-2nd-voice method, it works perfectly.
And thanks for the wikifonia link - I see you've got some good contribs over there
One thing that seems to work for me is making 2 half notes and adding chords to them, then changing the 1st half note to a whole note. The chords stay and play in the same way but there is only a whole note.

Have a look at https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/chord-symbols to see the Ctrl+Number keyboard shortcuts that move chord symbol input by the corresponding duration, without the need of having notes there and remove them afterwards again.

Ten+ years ago when this thread was starte,d workarounds like that would have been required, but it hasn't been that way for a very long time. Just hit Space when entering chord symbols to move to the next note or beat - or the other more specialized controls mentioned above.
