Audio Input/Output not appearing
I recently got a new Macbook pro and noticed that when I click the drop-down menu in preferences, I/O, no options appear so I cannot hear playback audio... Any suggestions?

Try the restart audio engine on that page and toggle the midi button on the main page next to the play button.

I just noticed that the entire panel is greyed out... and restarting the audio engine doesn't do anything, even when hitting the apply button :(

I just tried these steps, Factory restarting didn't help since the synthesizer option is still greyed out and the initial problem is still present...

Be sure to try all the steps, including the one about the PRAM reset, and the one about including details about your audio hardware here. If after that there is still no luck, next thing to try would be disabling or uninstalling other audio applications that might be “hogging” your audio device.

Not sure what it was, but the audio in Musescore 4 is working!!!
