Musescore 4 Playback [FIXED] Read comments below
The playback lags and produces horrendous sounds. It doesn't sound bad as an exported audio file.

Try increasing the Buffer size in Edit → Preferences → I/O

I'm having the same issue but the buffer size is on maximum and doesn't seem to be the issue here. It's probably some driver incompatibility:

I've tried this, and it helped some, but it still crackles and stutters. I also tried changing the output device from "System default" to the only other option I had, and it's still not resolved.

I had this problem too. I happened to open up the Mixer (View > Mixer), and when the Mixer was open, it seems to play perfectly fine. When I closed the Mixer, it went back to crackling and lagging again, so I just kept the Mixer up.

More likely your computer doesn't meet specs for MS4. Check it out on the download page.
