Adding beats to combined measure places them in next measure
I transcribe organ accompaniments for Gregorian chant, which doesn't have meter, I use long measures such as 20/8 to write the music. I combine or split measures, or I add and delete beats as needed. In MS4 (can't say that I remember doing this in 3), combining a measure and then adding a couple of extra beats results in a beat placed in the next measure, not in the measure where I need the note. This second measure remains, nominally, in the default time signature, but the rests go away, as if I can't add more notes to it.
This is, in sum, pretty annoying, because I have to undo several steps in order to restore the correct whole rest which would allow me to enter the notes in the usual way, in the measure where the additional beats from the previous measure get added.

Related to this problem seems to be one where I join a measure, realize that this is a bad idea, and try to add beats to the measures that are now split again. (I'd add the score again, but that seems…confusing.)
anyway, if anyone has any thoughts on solving this, please do let me know. I would like to get predictable results when using these functions, which would be much easier than estimating the number of beats needed for my work (28/8 is a bit absurd).
(I just discovered that deleting measures does weird things too. I thought that deleting the problem measure and anything after it might solve the problem.)

alright, I guess I'll add the score again. I added measures after the 4th psalm in order to insert the 5th antiphon again, then deleted the original measures containing the 5th antiphon, which I thought might be the source of the problem. This worked, except because I disabled inserting a key signature for all systems (this is annoying when I need 4 to 6 measures in A major, a couple in D minor without), I had to add the two sharps again on the 2nd and third lines in the antiphon. That pushed the extra bar line to the next line, and now I can't get rid of it.
I can make it invisible, but I don't believe that this should happen at all.
There was a bug in 4.0.0 that was fixed in 4.0.1 several weeks back. So be sure to update. If you continue to have trouble, please give precise steps to reproduce the problem.
