Can't use Simple Entry for bass drum part?
Hi! I've been trying to figure out how to put notes into a bass drum part using simple entry. I can't seem to click the notes in; I basically have to put them into a different instrument and then copypaste them into the drum part. Does anyone know of a solution to this?

The way MuseScore works for percussion is the drum palette. Look it up in the manual. I dislike it, but that's how it goes.
"simple entry" is a Finale thing; MuseScore has it's own system for note input. It's also simple but doesn't go by that name :-). Simply type the shortcuts shown in the drum palette - A and B for most drums - to enter the different sounds they produce and automatically get the correct notehead. Or double-click the palette note. Or click the desired note in the palette to set the sound and notehead then click in the score to place it.

...And what IS it called in Musescore again?

It's just called "note input mode". Well, there are different methods of note input, the default is "step time", and that's all 90% of people ever use 90% of the time. But there is also a re-pitch method, also rhythm, insert, and a coupe of (limited) real-time methods.
