Distorted High-Pitched Audio Playback on Speakers

• Jan 4, 2024 - 01:49

Audio Playback on speakers hasn't been working properly for my setup since 4.0
Here is a clip of the problem (from the discord) (https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/1026426937683488798/119120432616…;)

This proplem occurs with my external sound card which is what I use for my speakers (headphones work fine). I have tried both 44.1 and 48Hz sample rates but the problem remains with no change to the sound or pitch. All drivers have been updated and I am on the most recent version of Windows.

Any help would really be appreciated :)

The problem is the same for any score I use. I believe the issue is something to do with the compatibility between MuseScore and my external sound card. I thought this was an official channel, so sorry for bothering you, but I just found the MuseScore GitHub, so I'll probably report it as a issue there :)

This form is for people to report problems they are having. Then other users try to figure out if there really is a problem or not. We can help you find that out. Before you can make an accurate report on GitHub, you need to know just what the problem is. If it is a problem with MuseScore they need to be able to recreate it. If it is specific to your sound card, that might be very difficult to trace.

Unfortunately, it does seem to be specific to the external sound device I'm using (https://www.techexpress.co.nz/products/external-usb-20-6-channel-51-sur…). Sound works fine for me on MuseScore with headphones. It is worth noting that I use lots of audio processing and production-type software, and I have never encountered a problem like this, leading me to believe that there is some sort of sample rate mismatch somewhere between MuseScore's internal drivers and the external sound card. Although, that's just a guess.

Notation software isn't like any other audio software. In some respects you must tune the computer to the software. It can be very important to turn off "Exclusive mode". That is kind of a dated piece of equipment. USB 1.1 or even 2 might not be fast enough for MU4.
