Adding notes to lyrics with different syllables
I am creating a song made up of multiple verses. Although the same tune, some verses have additional syllables requiring extra notes. How do I indicate these notes without affecting the playback of the piece? To save space I want the verses to be placed underneath each other.
So in the attached I want to add a short word (quaver length) after the word 'too' and before the start of the next bar.
Thank you.

Just do it and make the tie dotted or dashed
and append a melisma underscore to the "friends."

Thank you, although this doesn't look quite right (I may have misunderstood what you said though). See attached. The 1st and 3rd verses should have a minim as the last note.

Ah, that's different. don't extend the melisma beyond the half note, but add it to the "too." too (pun intended)

no, tie the last 2 notes and make that die dashed or dotted

Or use a 2nd voice

Thank you, much appreciated.
I don't know whether you have a moment to tell me how I might add a hyphen to the first syllable of a new line, when the word is split between the end of one line and the start of another. It doesn't seem to let me, so perhaps I need to add it manually. Thank you again.
