Muse Sounds inactive
OS: macOS 13.4, Arch.: x86_64, MuseScore version (64-bit): 4.1.1-232071203, revision: e4d1ddf
I have installed and uninstalled Muse Score 4 multiple times since the launch. Anytime I notice a new update I try again. I have installed at least 1 sound package every time. Muse Sounds always remain greyed out and inactive in the playback setup. How can this be resolved?
Comments
I'm having the same issue. Have been really excited to try Muse Sounds, so hope to get some help on this.
I'm also having the same issue on MacOs and haven't found any solution yet.

I don't know anything about macOS, but basic troubleshooting steps could be:
-check Muse sampler: Diagnostics - Muse Sampler - Check Muse Sampler.
This should report: Muse Sampler library is detected, version XXX
If not present:
-check logfile. (no idea where this one is on mac; on linux ~/.local/share/MuseScore/MuseScore4/logs - on Windows C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\MuseScore\MuseScore4\logs)
In the log you will find:
-the location MS expects to find the library
-if it is found or not
-if the version is (in)compatible.
Troubleshooting anything begins with collecting info
If the library is present, but you still cannot select any muse sounds in the mixer, then probably the sounds cannot be found by the sampler. This is configured in a config file (Linux: /var/lib/MuseSampler/.config - again no idea where to find this in macOS)
You can also set the MUSESAMPLER_INSTRUMENT_FOLDER and MUSESAMPLER_PATH variables ( https://musescore.org/en/node/339560 )
I assume this works similar in macOS. Probably the search facility on your computer can help you find this stuff

Thank you for this suggestion. running this diagnostic gives many errors but I think the key ones are:
ERROR | main_thread | MuseSamplerLibHandler | MuseSamplerLibHandler: Unable to open MuseSampler library, path: /Users/***/Library/Application Support/MuseSampler/lib/libMuseSamplerCoreLib.dylib
ERROR | main_thread | MuseSamplerResolver | checkLibrary: Incompatible MuseSampler library; ignoring
When I went to find the file and see if I could get more info on the file I couldn't find it. It looks like it didn't download and install. There is also no path on my computer that matches the above.

Looks like musehub is not installed, since you cannot find the library anywhere on your system.

faq:
How do I get Muse Hub?
You can download Muse Hub from the top of this website. Click the icon that corresponds to your operating system (macOS, Windows or Linux). You can also download Muse Hub from partner websites such as musescore.org, and audacityteam.org.
On macOS, after downloading the .DMG, drag the Hub icon onto the Applications folder, then launch it from there. You must run the Hub from your dedicated Applications folder for the most optimal experience.

Muse hub is installed, and was installed first, and has been removed and re-installed for every attempt. Musehub was used to install musescore every time. Musehub was used to download the muse sounds every time. Musehub was used to download audacity (that seems to have worked correctly) Musehub/macOS does ask me to enter my password every time I restart my computer.

Ok.
If it is installed, then the sampler library libMuseSamplerCoreLib.dylib should be somewhere on your computer.
The problem is not musehub but musesampler.
As i said before , i don't know anything about macs. Perhaps a mac user could help you better.

Hi, Stevee22!
First of all, allow me to apologise in advance because I'm not a native English speaker and also because I'm not an advanced computer user, but I came across this thread while looking for a solution to that same issue (I'm a mac user myself) and I did find it.
I opened Finder and ran a search for "libMuseSamplerCoreLib.dylib". It was... somewhere, inside "musesampler-mac-0.4.1.34.zip". I then just copied the zip file and unzipped it in Macintosh HD > Aplicaciones > MuseScore 4 > Contents > Resources > Sound
The dylib file was now in the Sound folder and the MuseSounds option became available. And it works great!
Hope this helps!
I assume you have activated them in View>Playback setup.

That option is not available. That is what is greyed out and cannot be activated as noted in my original post

Why did they have to ruin Musescore? Now it's worthless.

Did you follow the instructions just above provided by z5s2nswfgs on Sep 21, 2023.
It doesn't help just to say that "it's worthless". Describe, in lots of detail, the problem you are having and tell us everything you've done to try to fix it.

Followed all the instructions here and in every other thread I could find. It worked for years and they decided to fix what wasn't broken. No audio playback.

Did you check the logfile?
