Connecting two words in lyrics
In lyrics, is there any way to tie two words together with something like a slur going under or over the space between the two words? This is a useful device to indicate a place where you do NOT want singers to breath or where two words are elided ("The eternal" is often written as, "Th’e-ter-nal," but also, sometimes, as "The__e-ter-nal") I have attached an photograph taken from a piece of choral music.

Well, that is what the elision is about. But then both connected words are considered one syllable, hence covering one note only

As far as I can tell, it doesn't work if the words are too far apart.

According to the handbook, an elision slur connects TWO syllables on ONE note (very useful in Spanish lyrics).
A melisma indicates that ONE syllable is carried over TWO or more notes.
This is neither of those cases. We need a liaison slur between TWO syllables on TWO adjacent notes - to indicate where singers should not breathe, or where the consonant ending a French word is to be connected to the vowel starting the next word. To complicate things further - the attached screenshot of a piece I'm transcribing shows a case where I need the slur between the end of a melisma, and the next lyric.
Would be great if you could add this functionality.

In this case, yes. But in a score with multiple verses in French, that would not show work, as the liaisons are lyric-specific.

In my experience, "no breath" is indicated by a dotted slur between the notes. I wasn't able to get it below the lyric, though. If you have multiple verses, it may not work for you.

Yes, this works for the screenshot I posted. But being able to link lyrics, rather than notes, would be particularly useful for French and multi-verse lyrics. Right now I simulate it with a series of periods, but that's not ideal.
