Musescore 4.3.2 Fails to Open in Windows 11

• Aug 13, 2024 - 19:56

I'm adding my voice for yet another Musescore doesn't open issue.

I've been through the forums and seen numerous posts about this problem, going back for over a year.

I'm running Windows 11 on an i9 with 128G RAM. I updated some drivers via the Lenovo Vantage app last night, and Musescore hasn't worked since. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Musescore 4 and Musehub. I've deleted every reference to Musescore in my registry and reinstalled it. I've changed sound devices and even tried older versions of Musescore 4.

The only thing I've not tried is the nightly build. This is for 2 reasons. 1, It's not clear to me which file I should be installing - the nightly build seems to have a different name than the production build. And 2, the warnings about the nightly build perhaps not being compatible with past and future production releases make it seem a bit pointless.

Is there anything else I can do?

Thanks,

Justin Fisher.

Your search probably also showed that reinstall almost never works. There are MuseScore folders that are hidden. Run a search for MuseScore of your entire drive including hidden folders. Delete anything you find. Move your Scores folder, of course. Normally when problems come up, running a MuseScore factory reset helps. It can be done from CMD if the program won't open.
Odd that updating drivers did this.

I answered too soon! So, after resetting Musescore, it opened on my main (built-in) monitor and worked just fine. If I move it to one of my other monitors, it goes blank and stays that way until I kill it with the task manager. If I reopen it, it tries to open on the monitor I moved it to (which is where it crashed) and just shows me a blank screen. I have to reset the whole thing again, including the rather pointless exercise of reloading all the VST's

How are you "moving it to one of your other monitors"?
On W10, I opened MU4 on my main monitor. Then I went to display settings and changed to a different monitor. Worked fine.
I haven't tried W11, but I can't imagine it will be any different.
