List of Improvements to Musescore

• Sep 1, 2024 - 05:43

Hello,
I would like to suggest some improvements and new features for Musescore.
-Offset 3rd Voice (the third voice notes are offset slightly to differentiate them from the 1st voice)
-Fix organ clef notation (there are currently two options, "organ" and "pipe organ". "Pipe organ" is notated
with an 8va bassa clef in the pedal, but this is wrong. The pedal staff always uses an ordinary bass clef)
-Heel and toe markings for organists
-Small arrows (used for Gt. and Sw. markings for organists)
-Brace for text (a brace indicates multiple verses end in the same refrain; common in hymns)
-Fioritura (let any note sequence expand or contract to fit the measure; see Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue,
where bars 1 and 15 have extra notes in the clarinet gliss; see also Liszt Paganini Etude 6, var. 11.)
-Copyright symbol should be available to add in the dialog box for copyright
-Option to create instrumentation sheet at the beginning of scores (should be a tick box in the "Choose
Instruments" dialog, labeled "Create Instrumentation Sheet"
-Sound flag options that include mutes for brass instruments
-Muse Sounds Lute
-Slash marks to separate systems
-Free rhythm Chant notation
-Ability to change page number font
-Stacked grace notes (i. e. grace chords, grace octaves)
-Ossia measures
-Coll. notation
-"Smart" paper size setting (automatically selects a paper size based on number of instruments chosen)
-Accept third-party fonts
-Add footnote option for custom text

Comments

A few of these features already exist:

-Slash marks to separate systems
Format > Style > System > System dividers

-Ability to change page number font
Format > Style > Text styles > Header

-Stacked grace notes (i. e. grace chords, grace octaves)
Select a grace note, then press shift + note to add it to the chord (as you would for normal chords)

-Ossia measures
Go to staff properties, turn 'Small stave' and 'Cutaway' on, and set 'Hide when empty' to 'Always'

"... the small staff method is a workaround, and can't give results like the attached image."

It can work, provided that you do this:
- split the measure
- exclude the second half-measure from the bar count
- hide the barlines of the mid-measure split
- add any missing accidentals in the second half-measure (all staves)

-Heel and toe markings for organists
-Small arrows (used for Gt. and Sw. markings for organists)

Both exist, in the master palette's symbols palette.
