Audio Playback issues
Whenever I’m writing music in musescore and I play it back to listen to it, it’s so glitchy and laggy that I can’t even hear what I wrote. Is there anyway to have smoother playbacks?
Also, this was an issue before I updated to version 4.4, It’s just 1000 times worse now.

MuseScore 4.4 actually contained a lot of optimisations for playback, to make it smoother. We have received sporadic reports from people for whom this worked out adversely, especially with low-end computers. We are working on a solution.

I am having the exact same problem since moving to 4.4. Everything was smooth prior to that. I am running a Mac Mini with 3 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i7 processor with 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 memory. macOS Monterey 12.7.6
Do you consider this a low-end computer?

Hm, no.
The few earlier reports we've had about this come from low-end Windows users, but apparently other systems are affected too.
I'm glad to hear that reverting to an earlier version worked as a temporary solution, unblocking your work; but be sure to try out the next update when it is released, because it would be regrettable if you had to miss out on all the new features.

Any idea when a solution will be implemented? I'm about to give up. My progress on a very large, multiple score, project has been sidelined. I've spent the last 2 day trying to come up with a workaround. The playback optimizations have made the user experience terrible. Thanks!

It seems to me that the recent update broke functionality with your project. I don't know of any solutions in work at the moment, but you could download and install an older previous version from here which might work for you: https://github.com/musescore/MuseScore/releases
Perhaps start with MuseScore 4.3.2., a version below the recent 4.4 release.

It apparently broke the audio functionality of every MuseScore score I've ever written.
As an FYI (hopefully it helps you): Backing up to v 4.2.1.240230937 got rid of the audio glitching. Revision d757433

Yes. Hopefully knowing that will help shed some light for the developers on what changes may have contributed to the audio issues. Thanks.
