MuseScore File to Sibelius
I was wondering if there was a way to transfer a MuseScore file from MS 4 into Sibelius. I exported the file as a MXL file but it did not work.
Any other ways?

But MusicXML is the way.
If Sibelius cannot read the compressed MXL format, why not try an uncompressed format?

My 7.5.1 Sibelius can only open uncompressed xml from MuseScore.
I too tried to open a Musescore 4.4.3.... uncompressed XML file in Sibelius. My Sibelius Ultimate, 2019.12, created the message attached in the screenshot.
That said, a Sibelius XML opens fine in Musescore.
I tried an Musescore exported midi file and that worked in Sibelius, but it was quite messy.
Maybe a future update will resolve this, unless someone know how to fix it now.
All the best,
Rob

I got a similar message. Hit OK and got another message. Hit OK again and the file opened.

Rob, can you post an mxl from MU4 that you are trying to get into Sibelius. I'd like to see if I can get it to work.

Hi,
I actually don't have a problem with xml from MS into Sibelius, this is not my thread. But attached is one of my old scores. It opens quite well in Sibelius. I hope mit helps.
All the best,
Rob

Might be that Sibelius doesn't support MusicXML 4?

I read that Sibelius exports XML 4, so I assume it will import one.

What does MuseScore 3 say on importing that file?
MuseScore 4 unfortunately doesn't validate against the schema anymore

Musicxml v4.0 was only released in 2021.
Your 5 years old Sibelius Ultimate 2019.12 cannot know about Musicxml v4.0.
Probably you should upgrade to a newer Sibelius version. (or ditch Sibelius - evidently)

I am sorry.
Take a look at this: https://www.musicxml.com/dolet-plugin/dolet-plugin-for-sibelius/
And/or here:https://www.sibelius.com/download/plugins/index.html?plugin=674

Probably this is a stupid question, but can the Dolet plugin be used to import musicxml?

I found a work-around to Sibelius not opening xml files created in Musescore.
Rename your file with .musicxml at the end of its file name and it will then open in Sibelius. When I did it, Sibelius still came up with a warning, but when I clicked OK it opened it in my Sibelius Ultimate 2019, and it was almost perfect.

Whether the filename ends with .xml or with .musicxml is totally irrelevant, as it is the very same content and does get interpreted the very same way on import in into MuseScore.
Maybe Sibelius makes a difference there, but is so without any reason.

Changing the file name is not irrelevent. It makes a difference. That's why it worked for me when I did change the file name.

For MuseScore it is entirely irrelevant, the import code doesn't care at all.

But when you said: I actually don't have a problem with xml from MS into Sibelius, this is not my thread. But attached is one of my old scores . It opens quite well in Sibelius (SQ No 2 1st movement A minor.xml)
Did you also rename the file?
