More features for modern and contemporary notation

• Dec 24, 2024 - 13:52

Here's some suggestions for new features that could possibly be added in order to accommodate contemporary composers:
- no time signature
- different time signatures for different parts simultaneously
- irrational time signatures
- repeat an idea with no indication of tempo or even rhythm
- rubato tempo that can be adjusted manually
- correct string harmonics notation
- beams having stems to a rest
- notation for general area of pitch
- manually adjust dynamics
- divisi of one part split to two staves
- time instead of metre

Of course, I understand if some of these are difficult to implement, they are merely suggestions and would just be nice to be able to use in my opinion. If anyone would like me to elaborate on any of these, please just let me know. :)

Some of these features are implemented already, and others are possible with workarounds:
- no time signature:
see Notating music with no time signature https://musescore.org/en/node/97676
- different time signatures for different parts simultaneously:
see Handbook about Local time signatures :https://musescore.org/en/handbook/4/time-signatures
but if you want measures of differing duration it's almost impossible because the barlines don't line up
- irrational time signatures:
see Using Irrational Time Signatures in Musescore : https://musescore.org/en/node/278332
- beams having stems to a rest:
see Stemlets on rests : https://musescore.org/en/node/333670
- divisi of one part split to two staves:
see Handbook and look for Ossia here: https://musescore.org/en/handbook/4/showing-staves-only-where-needed

... and this one you will have to wait for, because the handling of dynamics is under complete redevelopment:
- manually adjust dynamics
