Removing Extra Rests, etc

• Aug 17, 2025 - 22:45

Hello. Let me preface everything by saying that I'm an absolute moron, I'm not a composer or even a competent musician, and I can barely read music at all (I basically remember "Every good boy does fine" from high-school band). I'm just saying this because I'm probably going to ask a really stupid question.

The beginning of the score in the attached image has an 8th-note intro. I'd like each subsequent bar to have that, but MuseScore adds rests at the beginning, treating the intro section (whatever that's called) as a full measure, and I can't figure out how to fix it. I evidently can't just select and delete the items.

Little help, please? Thanks!

Thanks, but sorry: I don't see anything resembling a "button under Measures" in my interface. I just figured out a way to do it by selecting the offending measures, right-clicking, choosing Measure Properties, and setting it to 1 beat instead of 4. Appreciate your reply though!

How is that different from this?
"1. Right-click on the measure and choose Measure properties."
...which is mentioned here:

Where is your idea of a "button under Measures" mentioned?
The MuseScore handbook is under constant revision as the need arises, so if something therein led you astray, we would like to know.

Welcome aboard!
