Bugs encountered in Musescore

• Mar 28, 2009 - 21:24

Operating System: Windows XP
Musescore Version: Musescore 0.9.5 r.1667

Key Signature Crash
1. Select "File" and "New"
2. Create any title, subtitle, etc.
3. Add "B flat trumpet" to the instrument list
4. Select any key signature
5. Change the key signature to the key of concert B flat (No sharps or flats) or cut the key signature
6. Musescore crashes
This problem occurs on every instrument whenever I change the key signature so that there are no sharps or flats.

Drum Notation Crash
1. Select "File" and "New"
2. Create any title, subtitle, etc.
3. Add a percussion instrument to the instrument list
4. Select a note or rest within the staff
5. Select "Drums" from the palette.
6. Musescore crashes

Copy and Paste Bug
1. Create a new piece of music with any settings; I used "B flat trumpet"
2. Create a random string of notes and apply slurs
3. Hold "Shift" and select the short composition with the mouse
4. Paste the copied piece of music
5. The slurs are not present in the newly pasted music

Slur Bug
1. Create a new piece of music; I used "B flat trumpet"
2. Create a random string of notes and apply slurs
3. Play the music
4. The slurs are not played; the notes are still articulated
This occurs with many instruments, but the B flat trumpet is very easy to notice

Dynamics Bug
1. Create a new piece of music with any instrument; I used "B flat trumpet"
2. Create a random string of notes
3. Apply noticably different dynamics from "Create" and "Dynamics". I placed "pppppp" on the first note, a crescendo hairpin leading up to "ffffff".
4. Play the composition. The dynamics are not played.

Trill Bug
1. Create a new piece of music with any instrument; I used "B flat trumpet"
2. Create notes long enough to notice a trill
3. Apply trills to the notes
4. Play the composition
5. The trills are not played

Glissando and Tremolo Bug
1. Create a new piece of music with any instrument; I used "B flat trumpet" and "trombone"
2. Create two notes that have many half steps between them; I put two notes two octaves apart
3. Place a glissando between the two notes
4. Play the composition
5. The glissano is not played
The same problem seems to occur with the tremolo

Snare Drum and Bass Drum Bug
1. Create a new piece of music with Snare Drum and/or Bass Drum
2. Place notes within the Snare Drum staff and/or Bass Drum staff by selecting the rest, selecting the "N" for note input, and then entering notes by using the alphanumeric keyboard
3. Either Musescore will crash, or the notes will not be correct. In my case the noises of the Drumset were played instead of a snare or bass drum.

I apologize if I have included any previously mentioned bugs. Despite these minor problems, Musescore is still an excellent music notation software. I congratulate the development team for putting this much effort into Musescore.

David,
Are the slurs working for you, because they seem not to be working for many people that have rev 1667.
Take a look at the file I've attached. If slurred notes indeed play for 100% or their note duration, and tenuto notes also play for 100%, then slurred notes and Tenuto notes should sound exactly the same. But I think you will find that this example proves that slurred and unslurred notes sound identical, while there is a good deal of difference between the normal and tenuto notes. This is not just a matter of the difference being subtle. Either the slur is having no effect on the notes you would expect it to affect, or something is interfering with the slur on our systems that does not affect yours.
Please let me know which two sound alike on your system: 1 and 2, or 2 and 3.
Matt
