Two questions : Short lines and music fonts

• Jan 27, 2011 - 09:54

(1)
I have a piece where the last line has two sparsely populated bars. MuseScore stretches these to fill the width of the page. Tinkering with the 'stretch' property in the 'measures' dialog seems only to toggle between this arrangement and a complete over-compression of the two bars at the left margin. Is there any way to set the length of the last line to exactly what I want, which is something betweeen these two extremes?

How do I load a music font? The notebook directs me to the I/O tab on the Edit_Preferences dialog, but there is no mention there of sound fonts. (I'm trying to get a more realistic classical guitar sound than that provided on the font file bundled with the app.)

1/ The last line will extend on the full width if it goes beyond the last system threshold. You can change the last system threshold in Style -> Edit global style -> Page. So you can put this threshold to 100% and use the add more stretch menu.

2/ See Soundfont . In MuseScore 0.9.6+, the soundfont path has been relocated to Display -> Synthesizer. I got nice feedback about ProTrax_Classical_Guitar.sf2 but I'm not a classical guitarist.

1. I set the threshold to 100%. 'Add more stretch' (repeated used of '}') does nothing for a few tries, then suddenly expands the line into a line and a bit.

2. Thanks. It is in fact the ProTrax font I'm trying to load. I can now do it, but the result on playback is silence, even after load/unload of MuseScore. Doing this made me notice that MuseScore uses two folders - MuseScore and MuseScore 0.9. Is there anything wrong with my installation? The program is launching from the latter but holding the font file in a subfolder of the former.

Ahah - need to display mixer and select the guitar to get the sound. OK.

On the matter of last line length, I get can slightly better results by using a horizontal frame but the adjustment still jumps between a little bit of variation possible on the right margin to everything squashed up on the left. What impact does the value of the 'layout stretch' property have on things ?

Layout stretch is the same than layout -> Add more stretch.
With a frame you should be able to change the blank space the way you want. See attached score. If you don't mind, you can link to your score and I will take a look.
