Enhanced Slurs
Slurs are pretty dang hard to insert with the software right now. How about instead of clicking and dragging the picture of the slur, you just click on it then connect the two notes you want to be at the ends?
Also, during playback, the slurs don't really happen when repeating the same note across a measure. Could it possibly be a single sound instead of separate?

You don't have to click and drag anything. Just select the note and press "S"., as described in the handbook: http://musescore.org/en/handbook/slur
And for playback, what you're describing where the note isn't repeated is a "tie", not a slur. A slur between two of the same note isn't a common notation, but when it does occur, the correct interpretation is to play the note twice.

And just as a follow-up, if the slur covers more than 2 notes (a long slur), once you press "S", hold shift and press the right arrow once for every note you want to extend it over. It will extend the slur as far as you need it to go.
You can click & drag, but this method is *much* more efficient.

Let's follow up even more :) You can also use S in note entry mode. To enter 3 quarter notes, C D E and a slur spanning from C to E. Press N (to enter note entry), 5 (quarter), C, S (start the slur), D, E, S (stop the slur).
