Disappearing vertical hook or arpeggio sign when succesively placing them.

• Nov 25, 2011 - 13:29

No matter what I do: first placing the arpeggio sign and then the vertical hook or
placing the vertical hook and then the arpeggio sign at the first cord. In both cases one or the other disappears. Also trying to ‘undo’ the action fails.
In the attachment this fragment.
Can somebody tell me what I am doing wrong please?
Joe.

P.S.
Perhaps the cause of the problem is trying to 'and' in stead of to 'or' symbols of the same
category?
Joe.

The answer is not immediately obvious - it took me a while to figure this out.

Presumably you are trying to notate an arpeggiated chord and keep the barre sign for 5th position A minor chord.

The answer is this:-

MuseScore will not allow you to attach an arpeggio sign and a bracket to the notes in the same voice.

In the return of your example I have attached the bracket to voice 2 and the arpeggio to voice 1.

You then have to double click to get the length right.

In MHO : a ‘cord’ can be understood as voices which almost simultaneously ‘sing’ when using the ‘arpeggio’ sign.
(arpeggio = harp). There should be the possibility to assign the ‘arpeggio sign’ to one voice as being sufficient.
But I am not a professional musician…..
Anyway, I can live with this ‘shortcoming’, do not want to see this as a bug.

The problem is that the bracket used for guitar barre fingering signs and also for organ keyboard designation is in the Arpeggio Palette, so consequently MuseScore thinks you are trying to replace the existing arpeggio sign.

It should, in my view, still respond to an undo command, but that is a minor irritation.

The permanent answer would be to place the bracket sign on one of the other palettes so MuseScore would know that you were not trying to replace an existing sign.

Maybe this should go into the issue tracker at some point though.

‘The permanent answer would be to place the bracket sign on one of the other palettes so MuseScore would know that you were not trying to replace an existing sign.’

Then my preference goes to the ‘lines’ palette: between the ‘text line’ and the ‘line’ sign
