I think the closest soundfont that can sound like and can be used for a lute is the GeneralUser GS Soundfont.

Hi,
I am old to MuseScore but brand new to these forums. There is a handy lute soundfont called Phil's lute. It will take some searching as it comes and goes on the freeware sites. There are also a few good ouds, a saz, and a cittern. If you reply to this I will make an honest effort to get you some "addresses"...or share or swap.

Autsch! That is terrible. Three (sic!) samples for the whole range of a lute. All loop points stutter and oe of the samples is out of tune.
I know timbres of heaven (which is a GS soundfont as well) has a pretty good lute in it.
I've got a lute in symphonic sounds... it's from a harpsichord stop, entertainingly enough...

That could be a good upgrade for MuseScore 4. Bach wrote the lute parts in the Grand staff cause he wrote em for a Lute Harpsichord aka Keyboard Lute
