problems importing mscz files found on internet

• Feb 9, 2017 - 08:22

Hi, I have trouble importing mscz files from the internet.
The download is no problem, but when I open them I get the message to upgrade my musiscore. After doing so and trying again I keep getting the "upgrade now" message.
I'm using the free version of musiscore and an imac with snow leopard.

Thanks for the help,

MuseScore only comes in a free version, so that's not your problem.

The current release is 2.0.3, and the last major release before the "2" series was version 1.3: so are you perhaps still using 1.3? In that case you need to download the 2.0.3 version to read any files created from version 2.0 onwards.

The MuseScore menu path Help > About will tell you the version number you have installed.

There is no unfree version of MuseScore.

I guess you are using a version 1.x (actually I'm pretty sure about this, see below), but try to open files written with 2.x, so you need to upgrade. Check https://musescore.org/en/download.

As MuseScore 2.x doesn't run on Snow Leopard, you'd need to upgrade your Mac first, you need at least Mac OS X 10.7 AKA Lion

Thank you for the help. This doies seem to be the problem. I have musiscore 1.2 installed and every time I try and upgrade (thinking I was getting the newest version) I probably keep installing the same 1.2 version because that is the only one that seems to work with my os snow leopard. I will try and upgrade my os to lion or higher. Thank you all for the help.

So I've upgraded to MuseScore 1.3. Thanks everybody for the help. I will have to look into the MusicXML files, and might do so later. I'm new and a beginner with MuseScore and use it to notate arrangements for the band. The plan is to upgrade my OS so I will be able to keep using and downloading mscz files in an upgraded version.
Thanks everybody.
