Pesky line connecting invisible staff in system
Hello,
I've recently downloaded v. 2.1 - seems nice. Unfortunately two bugs I noticed in v. 2.0 appear to persist. One such bug I'll explain now. The score I'm preparing (for solo guitar) involves a single staff for most systems, but there are places it separates into two separate staves giving independent right and left hand parts. I have selected "hide empty staves" and also chosen to make invisible the empty measures of the extra staff preceding the place where RH and LH go independent. All of this is fine, but there is a vertical line connecting the two staves at the beginning of the system (not sure what it's called; not a brace, not a bracket) that persists even after I select it and make it invisible. I can turn it invisible-- but when I save the file, close, and open it up again, the vertical system connector line thing reappears. I've attached two image files: one with the pesky connector line, one without. Again, I can get it to disappear, but every time I save the file and open it up again, that line reverts back to visible.
If there is a way to avoid this, I'd like to know, since there are several places in my score where this is an issue.
Thank you,
Lewis

Thank you for the reply. My goal is not to omit barlines at the start of *all* systems with multiple staves, but only the systems that do not *begin* with multiple staves.

I had the same issue, and the response was to use image capture and placement. Take an image capture of the first image, as cleanly as you can, and then place that into the setup for the second image such that it replaces the missing barline.

Thank you for the response and the provisional solution.

For more suggestions (and possible solutions), attach your problematic score's minimum part here.
Or let's make predictions theoretically until we get tired.
Of course, it goes without saying the solution proposed by Ispil in this case is not ideal - any changes in scaling, page layout, etc., would mean capturing, copying, importing, etc. a new image each time. Though my issue may seem minor, I want to point out that this problem will arise almost any time someone wants one staff to divide at some point into two. MS follows standard practice for, say, an orchestral score where systems with more staves than a previous system begin with that number of staves, regardless of whether the new staves begin with rests. But it is not standard practice in a situation such as mine, where one staff divides temporarily into two, or say, a piano score, where two divide temporarily into three, for measures of rest to be included in the extra staff at the beginning of that system-- or if those measures of rest be made invisible, for the barline at the start of said system to extend to connect visible staves to invisible ones.
Many thanks!
Is there a reason you hiding measures individually rather than simply using the "Hide empty staves" option in Style / General? You say it is not standard to show the measures of rest, but in my experience what *is* standard is simply arranging the line breaks so this doesn't happen so much, and actually showing the measures of rest in the case where this isn't feasible *is* pretty standard in the music I have on hand.
Anyhow, the glitch you are seeing is indeed a known problem when hiding measures individually, and actually this is already fixed for the next *major* version 3.0 as part of a new "cutaway" feature that basically hides empty measures to produce the look you are showing here, automatically. But this is still a very long ways from being ready for release.
Meanwhile, there may be other workarounds. If you attach your actual score (or even just an excerpt) rather than just a picture we can advise better.
Thanks Ziya and Marc for the offer to look at my score, but I don't think I personally need more suggestions on this topic. Ultimately, my final score will likely involve image-editing software anyway - where such things are very easy to take care of. Yes, Marc, point taken on the standard practice of setting system breaks in a way such as to avoid multiple measures of rest in the extra staff. In my case this would be difficult or impossible to render naturally.
My point in posting was 1. to find out if I was overlooking some obvious solution to my problem, 2. to make the point that there is no reason I can think of for a pesky barline to connect visible staves to invisible ones. Since 1. I've found that there is currently no obvious solution, and 2. the glitch I describe is a known problem and being fixed, I am fully satisfied.
Again, many thanks for your time!
