how to repeat A part 3x with 2 different B parts

• Feb 22, 2018 - 15:23

It's easy enough with voltas and repeat signs to repeat the A part 3 x with a B between each repeat, even when the 3rd A ends differently from the first two. But how do you do it when you have a different B part between 1st and 2nd As than that between 2nd & 3rd As?

I have had to write out the 3rd A at the end, which is common but counterintuitive where it is essentially a repeat of A not a new part. e.g. attached is what I have had to do with Toot Toot Tootsie. Should be able to make those last 8 measures a 3rd repeat of the 1st 8.

Anyone know how to do that?

Thanks for your help. Believe it or not the topic entries to which the link refers are in fact mine of a while ago when I was trying to accomplish something similar with 3 A's and a bridge between A1 and A2, repeated between A2 and A3. However, what I am asking for now is to do it with 2 different "bridges", one between A1 and A2 and a different one between A2 and A3.

The suggested solution to the 3 A's one bridge situation was not to do it -- people will get lost not remembering which A they are on, better just two A's and write out the 3rd one at the end. Well, if that's the best way to handle the repeated bridge situation, it must be doubly true of the 2-bridge situation. So that's how I've handled it in the Toot-Toot-Tootsie example. I guess it's just not good practice to do the 3rd A as a repeat.
