Using Shift to select notes causes crash

• May 21, 2018 - 08:58

I have already posted this, but posted it in the wrong section of the forums and was kindly redirected to this forum to post bug reports for 3.0-dev.

"Alerting the developers that trying to select a group of notes with Shift currently crashes MuseScore 3.0-dev."

Yes, that is probably correct. I was making a guess, after all. However, Jm6stringer said he was having no problem on his Windows 10 computer, which worries me a little as it makes the crash harder to identify.

"which worries me a little as it makes the crash harder to identify."
I cannot reproduce too.
With which score you observe that? The default "Untitled "score? A Template? Your own score/file: if so, can you attach this file?
And by providing precise steps.

Ah, I can consistently reproduce the crash with these steps now:
1. Create a file in MuseScore
2. Write a C Major scale from Middle C to the C an octave above Middle C, consisting of semibreves i.e. whole notes
3. Slur all the notes. The slur is postioned incorrectly as I reported here.
4. Shift-select the notes.
5. Crash.

It will not crash if there is no slur. It will also not crash if the note positions cause the slur to be placed correctly. In the case of a C Major scale consisting of semibreves, it will always be positioned too high above the notes.

I can reproduce in a minimal way:

1) New empty score, eg Treble score template
2) Select the three first measures
3) Type "S"
4) Exit Note input mode
5) Click on second measure -> Shift + Click on third measure

Result: crash

  • Other scenario eg with six measures with slur. See this test file: test.mscz

Crash by selecting measures: 5+6, 4+6, 3+6, 2+6
But not with 1+6, or 1+2, 1+3, 1+4, 1+5

Are you agree with that?

. No issue for what I see right now if only two measures with slur.

No issue for what I see right now if only two measures with slur.

Try this:
1) New empty score, e.g. Treble score template
2) Select the first 2 measures
3) Type "S"
4) Exit Note input mode
5) Click on the first measure rest
6) Click into an empty area of the same measure
Result: Crash
