Forcing measure size reduction beyond shift + left bracket?

• Jul 3, 2018 - 16:31

Every now and then, I'd like to reduce the length of a series of measures beyond the limit of using shift + left bracket key, which often stops reducing the size before I'd like.

Is there a way, beyond shift + left bracket, to further decrease the length (= width = size; whatever the appropriate term is) of a group of measures? I thought I might find some tool in the Inspector, but I did not. I tried reducing the minimum measure width in Style -> measure, but that too did not help. Is there another menu or tool I need to use?

Thanks for your help,

Bob

I would suggest that if { is insufficient that you use the Layout->Page settings... menu and change the scaling to a slightly lower number. This will decrease the size of everything, so you may decide you need to put in system (line) breaks to keep the other measures where you want them.

The main thing that will stop stretch from going further is the "Minimum note distance" in Style / General / Measure. Reduce that and you can make measures narrower, at the expense of readability of course. Often it is indeed better to simply make the music a little smaller. If you need further assistance, feel free to attach your score.
