Could you explain it a little bit more exactly? Which OS? Which MuseScore version? What are your settings in preference->i/o (https://musescore.org/en/handbook/preferences#i-o)? Is the play panel (https://musescore.org/en/handbook/play-mode) grayed out?

I have the newest update and it lets me press the play button and it scrolls but no sound plays even when my computer is on full volume

But which operating system (Mac/Windows/Linux)? Please take a look as mentioned above in the prefeneceres->I/O (what are you seeing - maybe attache an image).
Is any soundfont loaded inside the synthesizer view (https://musescore.org/en/handbook/synthesizer#fluid, https://musescore.org/en/node/96811)?

As explained above, please go to View / Synthesizer and tell us if you see any soundfonts listed there. If not, you must have changed something about your configuration that caused MuseScore to not find the default soundfont. So go to Help / Revert to Factory Settings and things should be back to normal. If after the revert you do see a soundfont listed there but still don't hear anything, still then probably the score you are playing is not compatible with that soundfont. Try again with a new score you just created.

What soundfont do you see listed in View / Synthesizer? where is the volume slider set? Can you attach one of your scores here? Also try a brand new one:
1) file / new
2) choose "treble staff" template
3) enter some notes
anything?
If you have a soundfont Loaded and the volume is in a normal place (about half way) then perhaps Windows is muting the program. Find the system mixer where Windows can control the come of each application individually and be sure MuseScore has sound there.

The synthesizer says Musescore_General.sf3. Volume slider is set at 40. New score doesn't do anything. Will try the windows thing

On windows right click the speaker icon on the task bar and one of the options should be "Open volume mixer"
