Can't access my arrangements/ compositions after installing recent update

• Aug 7, 2018 - 14:55

About 4 weeks ago I loaded the update which was supposed to improve sound. It appeared to install normally but afterwards most of my arrangements/compositions had disappeared from the file. Some are listed in a back-up file, type .sib and i can't open them. Those that are still on my updated Musescore file are file type .mscz and these open normally. How do I get all my pieces back onto the file so i can open them?

.sib are Sibelius files, nor MuseScore files and MuseScore won't touch them. .mscz are MuseScore files, and apparently you still have those, so all is good

But to be clear: installing an update never in any way affects any of your existing scores. They are not stored "in" the program but as normal files on your computers drive. Most likely the files you are having trouble finding are simply in a different folder on your drive than the one you are looking in.

Thanks both,
All of my music has been done using Musescore. I did trial Sibelius for a few weeks but removed it before loading Musescore. My files were all absolutely fine until I loaded the sound update then they were instantly not available. Can you suggest where I might find this different folder on my drive, where my files might have migrated to? I am a musician but unfortunately not very computer literate.

Again, updating MuseScore in no way whatsoever touches your files. They are in exactly the same folder they have always been in. The normal default places is MuseScore 2/Scores, but perhaps you inadvertently had been saving them elsewhere? Unfortunately we can't really answer that for you from here. If the search function provided by your OS doesn't help you find them, maybe you know someone more computer-literatre who lives nearby that could come over and help? Again, your files did not move or disappear - they are exactly where they have always been. You just need to remember / figure out where that is! How had you been locating them before?
