Select a note from "Nothing selected" without using the mouse?

I like to use the mouse as little as possible, and I'm trying to find a way around this.

I normally navigate through a score by using a combination of the arrow keys plus SHIFT and ALT.

But if I want to add a chord symbol, for instance, the problem arises. I type CTRL-K and then type my chord symbol (or several by using space and/or tab). When I'm done, if I hit ESC, the last chord symbol I typed turns blue, and I can move it with the arrow keys if I want.

If I hit ESC again, the Inspector then shows "Nothing selected." At this point, I can't navigate through measures or notes anymore by using the arrow keys because no notes are selected. I have to then use the mouse to select a note (or measure) again before I'm able to navigate mouse-free.

The only work-around I've found for this is pressing CTRL-home followed by the right arrow key. Doing this will select the very first note of the piece. I can then navigate mouse-free again. But this is not a very efficient way to do things, as you might expect.

So ... Is there a way to select a note from "Nothing selected" without using the mouse? Even a "select first note of measure" or "select first note on page" would be helpful.

I looked in the shortcuts and couldn't find anything like this.

Anyone know a way to do this?
