Bass guitar passing notes - hammer-on/off
I am trying to write the bass guitar part in a song arrangement.
I want to put in some passing notes which are hammered-on (or off) where the first note is plucked, but the second sounds without attack by placing a finger on a higher fret (or releasing a finger to change pitch to the next lower stopped fret).
I had hoped that adding a tie-bar would do this, but it doesn't.
I've tried using glissando and bend, but neither of these produces the correct effect, i.e. an immediate change in pitch without attack.
Is this possible in MuseScore?

No. Adding a slur does not eliminate the next note's attack. For the same reason flutes still sound 'tounged' even with slurs
You would have to use the piano roll editor to adjust note on and off points.

I've had a look at the piano roll editor, but I can't see how to use it to remove the attack from the second note.

If the issue is the attack, then you need a different sound font.
I've spent a bit of time looking at Bend and found that this is pretty close to what I wanted.
The duration of the bend is short enough that you don't really hear the slide.
Unless there's a better way to do it ...?

I know how bends work in MuseScore, but I'm not sure how they relate to reality, someone else needs to help with this. I'm sure someone will.
