No Playback, No Synthesizer
So I'm not sure what's going on with MuseScore 3. I created a new score for voice, viola, and piano, and noticed that the playback option wasn't working. I went and checked for the synthesizer, and that seems to be out too. The synthesizer option is completely grayed out. I restored all defaults and the same problem still persists.

I also created a new score with the same results. Guess I'll be going back to MuseScore 2 for now.

I restored all defaults you mean Revert to factory settings (https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/revert-factory-settings )?
Which operating system?
Have you seen this: https://musescore.org/en/node/96811
If you are using Windows, open the system mixer and check that the MuseScore icon is present.
Open Preferences and check the I/O tab.

What operating system do you have?
Which MuseScore version?
Have you updated anything like MuseScore, the operating system (includes windows automatic updates) or hardaware?
