2nd voice with ties
If I put in a first voice with ties then try to add a second voice by clicking on a tied note, nothing happens. E.g in the attached "score", the tied note on the first beat of bar 2, if I want a 2nd voice with 2 quavers, I can't do it without untying these notes first.

Select the note Voice 1;
Press 'N', press the Voice 2 icon and enter the notes
If you mean you want 2 quavers on beat 1 of the second measure, then select something in that measure, press N to enter note input mode, then press ctrl+alt+2 to select voice 2 (the note input cursor will always move to beat 1) and enter the notes the same ways as you would in voice 1.

OK thanks. It's not consistent then, as if the note doesn't have a tie on it, the 2nd voice works without pressing "N" first.

That made no sense to me.

All right, I don't speak English and maybe I didn't understand...how to insert the notes without pressing 'N'?

Keep in mind there are two different things here: entering notes, and changing existing notes. Entering notes work perfectly consistently - you can enter notes with ties directly into voice 2 exactly the way you would enter them directly into voice 1. This would be the usual way of entering notes. Only if you've mistakenly entered them into the wrong voice (or you have otherwise changed your mind after initially entering the notes) would you be using the command to move existing notes to another voice. And it is indeed true that this command happens to be limited in that it doesn't work with ties. It's not a command that one should normally be using very often, though - normally you should enter notes into the correct voice to begin with. And if you do wish to change voices later, consider instead the voice exchange commands in Tools / Voices.
