Alternate piano instrument layout
This may sound odd, but there's an arrangement that I want to use MuseScore to write, but it's an arrangement that utilizes the "three-hand effect". As such, I'm wondering if there's a way to alter the piano instrument layout so that there's 3 staffs instead of a grand staff, and the extra one isn't appended at the top, but instead is in the middle of the other two. That's where I'm putting the melody.
Basically, I want the layout to look like it does in Franz Liszt's arrangement of Franz Schubert's Ave Maria. How do I do that?

When you start to make the piece with MuseScore, the program shows you the "Instruments" panel.
When you select "Piano", of course, by default, you will get the standard 2 staves (G clef treble staff, and F clef bass staff).
But... You can add any extra staff to that instrument.
Just put the cursor on some of the staff which appears in the right part of the Instruments panel, and click on it. Then, click on the button [Add Staff].
You can move that new staff whatever you want (buttons [Up] and [Down]).
You can change the clef of that new staff at any time through the piece.

Okay, new problem. I tried that, and it linked the top 2 staffs together, with the bottom staff looking like an add-on. I don't want that. I want all three staffs to be linked! How do I do that?

You don't mean linked. You mean connected by barlines. Double click the barline and drag the bottom square to the bottom of the bottom staff. You can do the same with the bracket before the staff.

Never mind. I figured it out! Thanks for all your help!
Open the instruments dialog in a score with a piano.
Select Staff 1 under the piano
Click Add Staff (not linked staff)
Click OK.
You will probably need to change the clef.
