Downloaded the newest version from the software's auto-update and it told me to repair?
I cannot install the version I just downloaded... This is a different, newer version, isn't it? Then why does the setup wizard look like this...

What version do you have installed? What version are you trying to install?

3.1.0.7011 is the RC. Did you install that next to 3.0.5? If so, just update 3.0.5 to 3.1.0.7078 (maybe you did already, might explain the error you're getting now) and deinstall 3.1.0.7011.

I indeed covered 3.0.5 with 3.1.0.7078! Thanks ;-)
3.1 formal release is still marked as "MuseScore 3" in the menu, same as the 3.0 series, so I thought 3.1 had not been installed.

then indeed updating the RC would detect that it re-install 3.1 final and offers a repair
