Playback Aomaly
Why is there no playback sound in the Violins and Violas? None of the triplet configurations playback?! I don't know what goes on with MS 3+. Please see attachment below,

Could it be the dynamic P from the beginning?
In reply to Could it be the dynamic P… by Shoichi
No, it is NOT the dynamic p. It's something weird in MS 3. THe notes each sounded when entered, but are not being picked up by MS playback

When you open the mixer (F10) what sound is assigned to the instruments?
In reply to When you open the mixer (F10… by mike320
I left all the instruments except for the strings on MS default (I guess) settings. I assume that must be right for most purposes of regular score writing. I put ALL the strings section into Slow Strings I noticed a wholly different set up from MS 2 on the Mixer, with many sounds.

I don't know what you are talking about, whkat suggestion? Also, the 0String.mscz does not open. What is it suppposed to be?

Hi Shoichi and mike, I got the playback problem fixed. (Take a look at the attachment if you want) I was just experimenting around, and found out the Basses and Cellos notes were keeping the V 1,2 and vilolas from playback. Don't ask me how or why, it's witchcraft or something. I deleted them and then re- notated and everything plays now. And, Shoichi, you are right about the violins 1, 2 and viola, they needed to stand out just a hair more when they do play. I changed the Cellos and CBs to pp instead of just p. Makes a better balance, and it will be better in a regular symphony orchestra also.

Please see most recent attachment below. Violins 1, 2, and violas : None of the triplet configurations are played back by MS, BUT, the quarter notes on the 3rd beat of each measure ARE played! Weird! I went back on Mixer and checked what I had put for strings sound, and it's Slow Strings, no mutes are on or anything, did not see any volume issues. So what kind of weird bug is this? What can be done about it?

I've been out all day, so you got a slow response. The problem is what I expected. You have the sounds set to slow strings in the mixer. The notes are too fast and there is insufficient attack on the slow note sounds to be heard. Change the sound to something not called slow, and you will be able to hear them.

All I want is a standard orchestral string section sound in the strings! ( Not any Solo sound)So will "Fast Strings" do that or what? Please note I fixed the playback anomaly and do hear the triplets being played even with "Slow" strings P.S. Edit: hey, I set all the strings on Strings Fast THe playback was marvellous, the triplets on p daynamic coming through very clearly! Good. I wonder why there is nothing called just Orchestral Strings? THe sound I heard for the violins 1, 2 and violas p dynamic setting with staccato dots for very light bowing really does approximate certain places I noticed in one of Anton Bruckner's symphonies. (I decided I would like to use that same effect myself in this particular score.)

Strings is is a sound defined in the GM standard for soundfonts along with pizz and tremolo. There is no standard sound for fast or slow strings. I for one never use any of the strings sounds because I don't want my violin and cello only sections sounding the same. The default soundfont has both fast and slow sounds for all of the individual string instruments. Since your Symphony would logically change tempos between slow and fast, it may make sense to put the movements in their own files (which I do) and use the appropriate sound (fast or slow) for each movement. As an alternative, you can use an instrument change, change to the same instrument and change the sound in the mixer between slow and fast as appropriate if the tempo changes significantly within a movement.

OK Well, now I am wondering if all the othere instruments besides strings have a default setting for symphonic scores? For sintanace, beginning with the Flutes, are they set by MS to "standard" flute sound, next oboes, etc. I noticed that there were sounds already set by MS for each instrument in the Mixer. I do not want to be haDO you mean you use SOLO sound on violins and cellos only? I never use solo for sysmphony sounds, I prefer the "fukll sections" sound.

There are sounds with s on the end of each of the string instruments and this is the sound I use. In version 3.2 there is a change from previous versions, the default was changed from violin (solo) to violins (section) for example.
