I use the Add Note-Name Noteheads Plug-in all the time to create musical scores for our classes, but I am forced to stay with MuseScore 2 because this Plug-in is not compatible with MuseScore 3. Are there any plans to extend this Plug-in to make it work with the newest version of MuseScore? I would like to be able to take advantage of the other features in latest version, but this one thing holds me back.
Is there a workaround?

It is not needed in MuseScore 3 anymore, as a far better method is available there, see https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/notehead-scheme

But with the notehead-scheme function in MuseScore 3, there is no way to customize the notehead overlay. For instance, I need a 2, 1, 0, 6, 5, 4, 3 notehead layover instead of A, B, C, D, E, F, G for whistle tutorials. Solution?
Such noteheads just don't exist in SMuFL, that's why the notehead schemes don't have them
