Getting musescore 3

I have followed all the prompts to install musescore 3 and when I ask it to open I get the message that my computer does not have api-ms-win-crt-heap-11-1-0.dll
Musescore 2 has been operating without fail on my machine for years, and I have not had a problem with it.
What is happening with musescore 3 that I can't get it to work?
