Figured bass figures on rests in a different way
Look at this page of the BGA (Bach Gesellschaft Ausgabe). The bass figures are on the silent first eighth-note of each three. This is not the continuation case of the previous bass note, but a "forward reference" to the next, a different notion in figured bass; of course, the visual position has no playback effect on MuseScore, but I will attest that this is so difficult to enter with the "command-4 technique" that I plan on posting my score of this movement without figuring. Thank goodness there is no figure on the first beat of the movement.
Maybe I should just put them on the note and x-shift each on manually, but I thought I'd share my grief here.

Well now. There is a well-hidden facility of this sort already there. It turns out you can figure rests perfectly well (by the Command-4 technique), but there's a much better way. If one types "space" to go from one figurable note to the next, it pauses at rests, allowing figuring them! Made it easy to make short work of the figuring in that movement, but this is grossly inconsistent.
That is, it seems there is no reason why you are not allowed to click on a rest to figure it directly. Please consider.

Indeed, that seems an easily-corrected oversight. I'd encourage you to submit that as a formal bug report to the issue tracker.

#301753: Allow figured bass directly on selected rest (in bass line)
