Issue with MIDI and Linux on MS 3.4.2

• Mar 26, 2020 - 09:16

Trying to connect a midi keyboard to Musescore 3.4.2 on ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS.
although works proplerly on the appimage (MS 3.0.2) using Alsa and aconnect, on the 3.4.2 version (not appimage) there is no musescore entry on aconnect, neither possibility to run on Jack or other workaround.
Does anyone has experience with this? or and idea for a work around?
Many thanks in advance,
Danwe

If you're not using the 3.4.2 appimage (the only official release for linux), then what are you? And why not use the appimage as well, if you know that to work?

Thank Jeetee, I am using 3.4.2 as snap app.
I imagine I am using this because it provided a better behavior of MS in my system (it was faster than appaimage 3.0.2) and could open files directly from attachments, foldres etc.

Now i tested the appimage 3.4.2 and midi does function, so thank you for that!

I imagine my questions now with be: a. how i can use the appimage as part of my working flow?
b. would it be as fast as snap? or even better, why wont it function on snap?

Thanks again,
Dan

Snap packaging is not done by MuseScore, so you'd have to take it up with the maintainer of that package somehow.

There shouldn't be any difference in speed between the two packages though. And from what I gather, you should be able to install an AppImage as well, providing you with the same system integration features.
